Robot/ Technological Apocalypse
This is a thought I have quite often; that one day technology may render humans obsolete.Sure, we are the ones who created and are still creating various forms of technology. It started out small: electricity, radios, telegrams; then telephones, tv’s, appliances; and later cell phones, and computers, and the miracle we call the internet. Somewhere in the mix was the industrial age, where things were (and still are) mass produced by enormous and dangerous machines. Machines have slowly been replacing man; they are faster, make less errors, and are cost-effective. This modernization leaves little room for humans in many workplaces. Basically humans are just around for quality control and to double-check the work of the machines. Eventually though, I imagine, these machines and processes will be perfected to have a minuscule error rate, thus eliminating the need for human employees altogether. In fact, the better and smarter humans make technology, the less the world needs humans. Machines are slowly replacing us. It sounds like some sort of creepy “Minority Report” conspiracy, but in reality, it’s already happening. The more technology we create, the more expendable we become. Some movies that portray this sort of idea are:
- The Terminator
- I, Robot
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- Minority Report
